Following the publication of an interventionist content by the British Ambassador to Tehran Simon Shercliff on a social media, concurrent with the Reporters’ Day, he was summoned to Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Director General of Western Europe Affairs Department on Wednesday evening.
The envoy was informed of Iran’s strong objection to stances and behavior outside diplomatic norms and regulations.
The Director General of Western Europe Department emphasized, “Careless and irresponsible content void of diplomatic norms are clear examples of interference in internal affairs and are regarded as unacceptable.”
The director general also pointed to the destructive actions by some London-based media against the Islamic Republic of Iran under the pretext of freedom of speech and stated, “England, with its indefensible record towards the Iranian people, is not in a position to comment on the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He noted, “This is the Islamic Republic of Iran and we will not allow the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran to be ignored with arbitrary actions.”
In response, the British ambassador emphasized his country’s determination to maintain respectful relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
