Baku-APA. An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has struck off the coast of western Indonesia but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The government-run Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said that the tremor hit at 11:00 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) on Saturday, with an epicenter 133 kilometers (82 miles) southwest of West Lampung regency of Lampung province. It struck at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).

Indonesia is vulnerable to earthquakes as it sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire.

The region is known for its seismic and volcanic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
