Iran’s judiciary says freed U.S. hikers’ lawyer not arrested

Baku-APA. The office of Iranian Judiciary spokesman on Monday rejected the reports that the lawyer of the three U.S. hikers freed by Iranian authorities last month has been arrested, APA reports referring Xinhua

A number of foreign media recently reported that lawyer Masoud Shafiee was arrested on Sept. 26 and briefly detained at Tehran’s Evin prison.

Some reports also said that Shafiee was banned from moving out of the country after the U.S. hikers were released.

Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal were arrested in Iran on July 31, 2009 for illegally entering Iran’s western border and were later charged with espionage. They were released last month on a bail of 500,000 U.S. dollars each.

Another female hiker Sarah Shourd, arrested together with Bauer and Fattal, was released by Tehran’s prosecutor in September 2010 on a bail of 500,000 dollars due to her health situation.
