Baku-APA. Yemen’s Defense Ministry said Saturday that three soldiers were killed and 10 others were injured in ongoing battles between government forces and dozens of al-Qaida militants in the restive southern province of Abyan, APA reports siting Xinhua.

The ministry said in a brief statement that troops from the southern military bases Saturday morning cleared the remained parts of Zinjibar city, the provincial capital of Abyan province, forcing dozens of terrorist to flee to other safer regions.

The troops in collaboration with local citizens were still tracking al-Qaida pockets in and around the city, the ministry said.

Yemeni government forces have been fighting for more than three months against militants of the al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), who apparently took advantage of the country’s political crisis to expand their military operations and seize control over the lawless southern and eastern territories.
