Baku-APA. The United States on Thursday offered 90 million dollars in emergency flood aid to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), APA reports siting Xinhua.

The State Department said the aid comes in response to humanitarian needs arising from recent flooding in DPRK, which will go to Kangwon and North and South Hwanghae provinces through U.S. NGOs.

"This emergency relief demonstrates our continuing concern for the well-being of the North Korean people," said the department, noting the U.S. supports emergency humanitarian assistance to the people of DPRK in accordance with international standards for monitoring.

"It has been the United States’s long-standing position that the provision of humanitarian assistance is separate from political and security concerns," the department added.

Following severe flooding in DPRK in September 2010, the U.S. provided 600,000 dollars in emergency relief supplies to the Asian country.
