Baku-APA. Hundreds of Syrians living in Jordan along with Jordanians staged a sit-in on Wednesday, calling for expelling Syrian ambassador from Amman, APA reports siting Xinhua.

"We want the toppling of the criminal Syrian regime. We want the Syrian ambassador out of Amman," the demonstrators chanted during the sit-in before the Syrian embassy in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

Holding banners voicing support for the Syrian people, the participants paid tribute for the civilians killed by Syrian security forces.

"The Syrian regime destroyed our country. I cannot go back there now as I fear for my life. I hope this criminal regime to be toppled and all Arabs should support us," a Syrian participant, who identified himself as Helmi Hasan, told Xinhua.

The demonstrators also called for putting Syrian President Bashar al-Asad and his aides on trial.

Syria has come under international condemnation for its alleged crackdown on opposition protestors and military operations in some cities.

The authorities brushed off the pressures as "interference in the country’s affairs" and blamed the violent acts on armed thugs and ultraconservative Muslims who want to establish Islamic emirates nationwide.

The Syrian government pledged that there would be no letup in its crackdown on those gunmen to restore stability and security to the country.
