7 militants killed in U.S. drone strike in NW Pakistan

Baku.APA. At least seven militants were killed in a U.S. drone strike launched early Wednesday morning in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border area, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

While most of the local media quoted a foreign report as saying that seven militants belonging to the Haqqani network were killed in the afore-said strike, one local Urdu TV Channel 5 said that four militants were killed in the strike by quoting its own sources. But the Channel 5 report failed to mention what are the sources.

Nearly all the other local media reports said that the killing of seven militants by the U.S. drone strike is yet to be confirmed by the Pakistani authorities.

According to the local media reports, the U.S. drone strike came in the wee hours of Wednesday when two missiles were fired by U.S. drones at a vehicle and a compound in Miranshah, a main town in North Waziristan which is close to Afghanistan and is believed to be a stronghold of militants of different terrorist groups.

It is not known yet whether or not there is any big fish of the terrorist group, who got killed in the strike.

Wednesday morning’s U.S. drone strike, if confirmed to be true, is the 46th of its kind (counted on a daily basis) in Pakistan since this year. To date, a total of 419 people have reportedly been killed in such strikes since the beginning of this year.
