Baku-APA. A car bomb exploded in Iraq’s northern city of Mosul when a police patrol was passing by on Thursday afternoon, killing a child and wounding 13 others including 6 policemen, APA reports siting Xinhua.
A booby-trapped car parked on a main road at the neighborhood of Alqtisadeen in Mosul was detonated when a police patrol passed by, killing a child who was walking by, and wounding six policemen and seven civilians, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The blast destroyed the police car and several civilian vehicles. Adjacent buildings also suffered damages to different degrees, the source added.
Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, has long been the stronghold of al-Qaida and other insurgent groups. American troops and Iraqi security forces have repeatedly carried out operations against insurgents there, but the stubborn militants proved to be still lethal by having launched sporadic high-profile attacks in recent years.
