Baku-APA. Two Iraqi soldiers were shot dead at an army checkpoint in Iraq’s northern city of Mosul on Wednesday night, a local police source said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Unidentified gunmen attacked a checkpoint in Mosul’s Aldrickzleh district, killing two soldiers, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media.
The assailants fled the spot and police carried out a manhunt, the source added.
Mosul, 400 km north of Baghdad, is a multi-ethnic city where security situation is among the worst in Iraq. Iraqi security forces, government officials and employees are frequently targeted by insurgents there.
