According to a note released here by his spokesperson, Jean- Victor Nkolo, the president was deeply shocked to learn about the violent attacks in Norway.

"President Deiss is particularly distressed that one of the attacks has targeted young people, and that this has happened on the eve of the High-Level Meeting on Youth convened by the General Assembly in New York on July 25 and 26, 2011 to mark the International Year of Youth," said Nkolo, adding that "the president of the General Assembly strongly condemns these attacks and offers his condolences to the people and government of Norway. "

A bomb exploded on Friday in downtown Oslo near government offices, killing 7 and injuring more than 19 others. A shooting also took place on Utoya, an island south of Oslo where a youth camp for the Norway’s ruling party was underway, that resulted in the deaths of at least ten people.
