Hezbollah condemns U.S. sanctions on Syria

Baku-APA.Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah on Thursday condemned sanctions imposed by the United States on its ally Syria, APA reports Xinhua.

"The sanctions imposed by the U.S. on Syria and the attempt to (target Syrian) President Bashar al-Assad are of political nature and have nothing to do with the demands (of the Syrian people)," a statement issued by Hezbollah media office said.

U.S. President Barack Obama imposed Wednesday asset freezes and restrictions on financial transactions on Assad and six top aides.

The Hezbollah statement said the new sanctions were meant as a punishment against Syria and its people for supporting the resistant movements of Lebanese and Palestinians against Israel and the U.S., the statement added.

"U.S. interference will not stop the Syrian people and the ( Syrian) leadership from committing to the righteous causes of the nation," it added.
