European Council President arrives in Beijing for visit

Baku-APA. European Council President Herman Van Rompuy arrived in Beijing Sunday morning, beginning his five-day visit to China, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

During the visit, Chinese President Hu Jintao will hold talks with Van Rompuy. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice President Xi Jinping will meet with him respectively.

Van Rompuy will also pay visits to Chengdu, capital city of southwest China’s Sichuan Province and China’s economic hub Shanghai.

The visit is his first official visit to China since he became president of the European Council on Jan. 1, 2010.

"We hope the visit will help boost mutual understanding between China and the EU and further promote bilateral cooperation," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu at a regular news briefing.
