Fire claims 9 lives in northeast China

Baku-APA. Nine people have lost their lives and six others sustained injuries in a fire that gutted a real estate office in northeast China’s Liaoning province, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The fire broke out at the sales office of Wanda Plaza in the Tiexi district of Shenyang city on Saturday at 2:54 p.m. local time (0654 GMT), China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

A spark from a short circuit ignited the deadly blaze, according to the fire department investigators’ initial report.

The fire was put out after a few hours, leaving rescue workers the task of taking the injured to hospitals. About 40 people were saved. Rescue efforts led to the discovery of nine bodies in the smoldering ruins.

Most of the people killed and injured in the tragic event were home buyers and sales assistants.

The plaza was a new development project of the Wanda Group. The private company has made large investments in real estate, hotels, and department stores across China.
