Protests continue in Thailand

Baku – APA. Protests have been continuing in Bangkok for ten days, security is being strengthened in the city. APA reports that leader of the protestors, ousted Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra called on his supporters to continue the protests. 50,000 servicemen and policemen have been deployed in Bangkok.

Protests began in the capital of Thailand on March 13, in the first days over 200,000 people participated in the protest actions. The protestors demand dissolution of the parliament, resignation of the government and early elections.

The government led by Abhisit Vejjajiva refused to resign. The next step for the solution of the conflict through negotiations is likely to be taken on March 23.

Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted in a military coup in 2006. He was found guilty of corruption. Supreme Court of Thailand passed a decision in February to seize 1.4 billion dollars of Thaksin’s assets.
