Baku hosts Israel Film Festival

Baku. Anakhanim Hidayatova – APA. The opening of the Israel Film Festival took place at the Azerbaijani University of Languages on November 12.

APA reports that the event was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the relations between Israel and Azerbaijan.

Representatives of Israeli embassy, Jewish communities, University of Languages, and students attended the event. Ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan, Rafael Harpaz, participating in the opening event, spoke about the Israeli film industry noting that Israeli movies several times won the first award in the Cannes Film Festival and been nominated to Oscar. The ambassador stressed strong cultural relations between the people of Israel and Azerbaijan. Rafael Harpaz underlined the good and friendly relations between the two countries and noted that he will make all efforts to deepen and widen them.

Furthermore, Ambassador Harpaz praised the cooperation with the Azerbaijan University of Languages and highlighted the pivotal role of the Israel Academic Center in development of academic and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Israel.

The Center was established in 2009 where the President Shimon Peres personally attended the opening and re-inauguration in 2012 by the Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

The festival will take place between November 12-21, 2012 where the most known and interesting movies of Israeli filmmakers will be presented. The aim of the festival is to introduce Israeli movie industry to Azerbaijani people. The Embassy believes that this festival will enrich the existing close cultural relations between the two countries.
