APA reports quoting AzerTAj state agency that President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva and Minister of Culture and Communications of France Frédéric Mitterrand attended the ceremony.

The exhibition entitled “Fly to Baku: Modern Azerbaijani art” opened in Paris after London. Advertisements about the exhibition were posted in the central streets of the capital of France.

The exhibition has special importance among the events held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for promotion of Azerbaijan in the world. The exhibition opened at Salomon de Rothschild mansion.

The exhibition was organized on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva. Addressing the event Leyla Aliyeva said the dynamism and spirit of creativity in the works demonstrated at the exhibition reflect a great part of what is happening in Azerbaijan.

“My country is developing rapidly, this is reflected more in the modern art,” she said.

Leyla Aliyeva spoke about Azerbaijan’s ancient history, the Baku magazine, which is now available in Paris, she said the magazine also pays attention to the young artists.

Leyla Aliyeva also spoke about the works demonstrated at the exhibition and the artists.

“21 Azerbaijani artists are participating in the exhibition. Some of them are young, some others are famous artists. More than 100 works - paintings, installations, videos, photographs, performances are being demonstrated here. Most of these works have been created especially for the exhibition “Fly to Baku” and are being demonstrated for the first time. We plan to demonstrate this exhibition all over Europe, hope to organize this exhibition in New York, the exhibition will end in Baku,” she said.

Leyla Aliyeva invited the participants of the exhibition to visit Baku in May during the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

Exhibition curator Herve Mikaeloff underlined that the exhibition captures the attention with its richness and the works exhibited there with their originality. “Azerbaijani art has deep historic roots”, said Mikaeloff and added that such events contribute to the popularization of Azerbaijan in the world.

First Lady of Azerbaijan, president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, vice president of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, French Minister of Culture and Communication Frederic Mitterand visited the exhibition.

Vice president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva is also among the participants of the exhibition. Her works will be used in the book of fairy tales “Once upon a time” to be published in Russian and English.

Paintings, installations, videos, photographs, performances by well-known contemporary artists such as Altai Sadikhzadeh, Anvar Asadov, Mirnadir Zeynalov, as well as young artists and the participants of Venice Biennale and other international events, are displayed in “Fly to Baku” exhibition.

The exhibition will last until April 21.

Such exhibitions will be organized in Moscow, Berlin, Rome, New York and Baku.
