Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Saturday he does not know anything about the White House aide who is reportedly considered a person of interest in the federal investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, APA reports quoting the Hill.
"I do not have any information or knowledge regarding the person of interest that's been referenced," Tillerson told reporters during a press conference in Saudi Arabia.
The Washington Post reported Friday that a senior White House adviser who is close to Trump was a "significant person of interest" in the probe into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia during the presidentail election.
Investigators are reportedly interested in people who had influence in the Trump campaign and the administration but are now absent, such as former national security adviser Michael Flynn and Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
Current administration officials including Tillerson and Attorney General Jeff Sessions have acknowledged having past contacts with Russian officials, as well as White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, who is Trump's son-in-law.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told senators on Thursday that the FBI probe into Russian ties with the Trump campaign is a criminal and counterintelligence investigation, lawmakers said.
