Baku-APA. Mexico’s federal police performed an extrajudicial execution of 22 people in an anti-drug operation in the state of Michoacan, the country’s National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) said in a report, APA reports quoting Sputnik.
The federal police perpetrated "acts of torture committed against two detained individuals," the report said, as quoted by El Comercio on Thursday. CNDH ombudsman Ismael Eslava said as quoted by the newspaper, that the police also used "excessive force that led to the arbitrary execution of 22 civilians."
National Commissioner of Security Renato Sales denied that the federal police committed arbitrary executions during the operation, carried out in May 2015.
A total of 42 people were killed when Mexico’s federal police ambushed who they believed were members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel at a ranch in Michoacan.
According to police, they opened fire at the suspects only when they refused to lay down weapons.
However, CNDH claims that a Black Hawk helicopter that was backing the police officers fired shells into the cellar and the house of Rancho del Sol.
