US vice president to skip initial Iran talks in Islamabad

The United States Vice President J. D. Vance will not attend upcoming talks on Iran set to take place in Islamabad, but remains open to visiting Pakistan if progress is made, the White House has said.

Speaking to reporters, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the US administration was optimistic about the discussions and would monitor developments from Washington, D.C..

She added that President Donald Trump, Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio would remain in the US while keeping a close watch on the negotiations.

The talks in Islamabad are expected to focus on Iran, though further details about the agenda have not been made public.
