US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to the President Marco Rubio said that the security guarantees currently being discussed include the deployment of British and French military contingents to Ukraine, and the support of these forces by the US Armed Forces, APA reports.
APA reports that Rubio spoke about this during hearings held at the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
According to him, NATO's military capabilities and the participation of individual members of the alliance in the process should be seriously reassessed.
"Currently, there is some general agreement on the issue of security guarantees regarding Ukraine. However, these guarantees mainly involve the deployment of a small European military contingent, primarily France and Great Britain, and then support from the US," Marco Rubio said.
He emphasized that the main element of a real security guarantee is precisely US support. According to Rubio, it is important that some European countries are ready to send troops to Ukraine in the post-war period, but without US support, this will not have a serious impact.
The Secretary of State added that many countries have not invested enough in their armed forces over the past 20-30 years. According to him, this approach is now starting to change and in some countries concrete steps have already been taken.
