US President Donald Trump announced a new 25% tariff he said will be applied to “all cars that are not made in the United States.” That tariff will go into effect April 2, the same day Trump is set to announce reciprocal tariffs against America’s trading partners, a day he refers to as “Liberation Day”, APA reports citing CNN.
Trump seemed to suggest that even if cars contain American-made parts but aren’t assembled in the US, they still be subject to tariffs.
Trump said that we “start off with a 2.5% base.” These tariffs will come on top of any existing ones that are in effect, he said Wednesday, speaking from the Oval Office.
