Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, who was dismissed from his position as chief strategist of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, has admitted leaking classified information concerning Ukraine and Iran to journalists, Axios reports, citing the findings of an internal Pentagon investigation.
According to the report, the general admitted during the investigation that he had passed classified information concerning Ukraine and Iran to two journalists over the past year. A Pentagon report noted that Sylvia had repeatedly failed polygraph (lie detector) tests.
The US Department of Defense accuses the general of unauthorized disclosure of classified information to media representatives. The report states that Sylvia answered investigators' questions about his contacts with journalists and submitted his personal phone for forensic examination.
The information passed to journalists reportedly concerned US military assistance to Ukraine, as well as the course of military operations against Iran.
It should be noted that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth dismissed the general from his position. The case has been referred to the US Department of Justice for possible legal action. Meanwhile, some of Sylvia's colleagues have disputed the allegations concerning the leaking of classified information.
