A meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has been held, APA reports.
The issue of Ramiz Mehdiyev's expulsion from the Academy was put to a vote and approved at the meeting of the ANAS Presidium.
It should be noted that former Head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev was sentenced to 14 years in prison by a verdict of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.
According to the verdict, taking into account Ramiz Mehdiyev's age and health condition due to his illnesses, it was decided that the prison sentence imposed under Article 70 of the Criminal Code would be suspended.
The verdict also included a decision to submit a recommendation for consideration of stripping Ramiz Mehdiyev of his state awards.
The verdict also provided for the confiscation of Ramiz Mehdiyev's property in favor of the state.
Recall that a criminal case was initiated against Ramiz Mehdiyev by the State Security Service in October 2025. Ramiz Mehdiyev was charged under Articles 193-1.3.2 (legalization of criminally obtained property), 274 (high treason), and 278.1 (actions aimed at the violent seizure of power or the violent change of the state's constitutional order) of the Criminal Code.
Ramiz Mehdiyev served as Head of the Presidential Administration from 1995 to 2019.
