The United States Treasury announced on Wednesday that it is adding eight individuals and five entities to its list of sanctions against Belarus, APA reports citing US Department of the Treasury.
The decision was taken on the third anniversary of the Belarusian 2020 election, condemned as fraudulent by the West.
The measures target entities "involved in the Belarusian regime’s continued civil society repression, complicity in the Russian Federation’s unjustified war in Ukraine, and enrichment" of President Alexander Lukashenko, the Treasury said. In addition, the State Department is imposing visa restrictions on 101 Belarusian regime officials and their affiliates "for their involvement in undermining or suppressing democratic institutions."
