The United States is seeking to achieve a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba, US President Donald Trump said during his address to the UN General Assembly, APA reports.
"My administration is working to achieve a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba. The communist regime is under tremendous pressure – greater pressure than ever before. It is failing like never before and will collapse," Trump stated.
The US President also noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is holding negotiations with Cuba:
"Marco Rubio is conducting the negotiations. He is deeply involved in negotiations with Cuba. Let's see what happens."
Trump added that the US would not allow foreign adversaries to use Cuba as a safe haven to pose a threat to the country.
"We will not allow a territory on our doorstep to serve as a safe haven for foreign enemies to threaten America," the US President emphasized.
