US President Donald Trump on Friday predicted the government would shut down “for a period of time” amid an impasse in the Senate between Republicans and Democrats, APA reports citing Bloomberg.
"We're going to continue to talk to the Democrats. But I think the country could shut down for a while. We're going to take care of the military, we're going to take care of Social Security. We'll see how things go and what we do," Trump said.
In order for the government to continue to be funded, the bill that was previously approved in the House of Representatives must also be supported by the Senate.
"We have 53 senators. We need 60 votes. That means the Democrats in the Senate have to vote to support the bill that was prepared by the Republicans. And I don't think they will vote to do that," Trump added.
