PM Carney: “If the United States no longer wants to lead, Canada will”

The United States has dominated the global economy for decades. Canada is ready to take on that role, states Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, APA reports citing The New York Times.

Carney stated that he would try to build a "coalition of like-minded countries" that would seek an alternative to the United States.

"If the United States no longer wants to lead, Canada will," he said.

Later, the Canadian Prime Minister added that the era of US dominance in the global economy has come to an end.

"The 80-year period when the United States embraced the mantle of global economic leadership, when it forged alliances rooted in trust and mutual respect and championed the free and open exchange of goods and services, is over. While this is a tragedy, it is also the new reality," Carney concluded.
