Violent US Storms Kill at Least 18

Baku-APA. Tornadoes tore through the southern U.S. state of North Carolina Saturday, as the death toll from three days of violent storms in the United States rose to at least 18, APA reports quoting voanews.com website.

Authorities say at least one person was killed Saturday in Bladen County, North Carolina. State officials have reports of other fatalities but are working to confirm exactly how many people have died.

In North Carolina, tornadoes also damaged many homes and businesses, and toppled trees and power lines, after hitting the southern states of Alabama and Mississippi.

Officials in Alabama say seven people were killed by tornadoes late Friday. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has declared a state of emergency. Another person was killed Friday in Mississippi.

Nine other victims were killed in the central states of Oklahoma and Arkansas late Thursday and early Friday.
