Baku-APA. At least 14 people have died and six are missing in Colombia’s central Caldas province after a bus in which they were traveling were buried by a major landslide, local police commander Alejandro Bustamante said on Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The landslide occurred late Wednesday and local road police found the bus several hours later when they were inspecting the area.

"This morning unfortunately the authorities have found 14 bodies" of the 20 people that were traveling on the bus, said Bustamante.

"Rescue work was suspended about noon Thursday due to the dangerous weather conditions and the threat of more landslides," Bustamante told the local television station RCN.

The bus was found buried by the landslide after it got stuck in mud next to a river. Several days of torrential rains had caused the river to overflow in a central coffee growing region close to the city of Manizales.

As news of the accident spread family members of the 20 people traveling on the bus from the capital Bogota to the coffee town of Manizales started gathering at the Manizales terminal of the Bolivarian Express bus company for information about destiny of their loved ones, local bus spokesman Juan Calderon said.
