Baku-APA. Hundreds of Egyptians have held a demonstration in Cairo to demand an end to brutality in prisons and calling for a ban on torture in the new constitution, APA reports quoting Press TV.

More than 1,000 activists gathered near the Interior Ministry late on Saturday and called on the country’s authorities to implement the goals of their revolution.

The demonstrators also urged President Mohamed Morsi to release prisoners arrested during last year’s revolution.

Many activists also chanted slogans against Morsi, accusing him of acting too slowly to meet their demands.

The Egyptians launched a revolution against the pro-Israeli regime in January 2011, which eventually brought an end to the 30-year dictatorship of former President Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.

Aida Seif al-Dawla, of the El Nadeem Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence, told the protesters that his group has documented 150 cases of torture in the 100 days since Morsi took office in June.

"Morsi is following in Mubarak’s footsteps," Dawla said.

"No torture - is that too much to ask?" read one poster, which was carried by members of campaign group A Nation without Torture.
