Arms depot explodes in Tripoli, heavy smoke covering city

Baku-APA. A navy armory in an eastern suburb of Libya’s capital of Tripoli exploded Saturday afternoon, leaving a blanket of heavy black smoke over the entire city, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The sound of successive explosions is echoing over the city," said a Xinhua reporter who is rushing to the scene, adding that ambulances and fire trucks were seen speeding to the site.

Civilian traffic, except emergency vehicles, was prevented from getting close to the blasts-hit area, as the security forces of the ruling National Transitional Council set up roadblocks on the main streets in the city.

The cause for and casualties from the accident remain unknown to the moment.
