Tunisian army defeats infiltrated armed group

Baku-APA.Tunisian army units have " neutralized" the armed group which infiltrated a southern locality near the Algerian border on Wednesday, the official press agency TAP reported, quoting a defense ministry source, APA reports.

Army units destroyed seven vehicles and immobilized two others, the source said, after a patrol spotted the vehicles some 20 km from the Algerian border, near the desert locality of Bir Znigra, some 500 km from the capital.

Earlier, clashes took place between the armed group and army units without causing any casualties among the Tunisian military, TAP said.

A defense ministry spokesman said that the area was being surrounded and that the military were waiting till dawn to find eventual casualties among the assailants.

Tunisian army patrols have increased their monitoring of the border after armed militants repeatedly tried to infiltrate the region during the past months.
