Azerbaijan purchased 153 battle tanks from Belarus in 2002-2012

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. Azerbaijan was one the main customers of Belarus in sale of arms and military vehicles in 2002-2012.

According to the calculations made by APA basing on data of the UN Register of Conventional Arms, over the last ten years, Azerbaijan ranked first in the Belarusian sale of tanks and artilleries, third in sale of combat helicopters and second in sale of armored combat vehicles.

According to the calculations, Belarus sold 271 battle tanks to foreign countries in 2002-2012. 153 (56%) out of them were purchased by Azerbaijan. All these tanks belonged to T-72 model.

During the reporting year, Belarus also sold 80 T-80 tanks to Yemen, 23 T-55 to Uganda and 14 T-72M1 tanks to Iran.

Totally, 223 artillery systems of various calibers were exported by Azerbaijan in the reporting period. 132 (59.1) of them were sold to Azerbaijan. In general, Belarus ranks second after Ukraine among the countries from which Azerbaijan largely purchased artillery systems over the last ten years. Azerbaijan bought 120 D-30 artillery guns and 12 2S7 self-propelled howitzers with 203 mm caliber.

Belarus also sold 10 D-30 artillery guns to Armenia, 9 D-30 to Eritrea, 46 artillery systems to Sudan (24 D-30, 10 2S1 with 122 mm caliber, 10 9P138 with 122 mm caliber, 2 BM-21 with 122 mm caliber) and 26 artillery systems to Côte d'Ivoire (6 BM-21 with 122 mm caliber, 10 BM-37 with 82 mm caliber and 10 2S12 with 120 mm caliber).

In 2002-2012, Belarus exported 66 battle tanks. During the reporting year, Belarus sold 15 Su-25 to Azerbaijan, 33 MiG-23 to Syria, 15 Su-25 to Sudan, 4 Su-25 to Côte d'Ivoire, 2 MiG-29 to Algeria and 1 Su-27 to the United Kingdom.

During the reporting year Belarus exported 181 armored personnel carriers. Sudan ranks first in this list with 89 armored personnel carriers. Azerbaijan purchased 60 and Côte d'Ivoire 37 armored carriers.
