"We condemn the statement of the foreign minister of the Netherlands that the Armenians were allegedly forced to leave the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan," the Western Azerbaijan Community said in its statement, APA reports.
"Everyone knows that the Armenians left the Garabagh region by their own will, refusing to accept the reintegration and citizenship offer of the Azerbaijani government.
In addition, referring only to ethnic Armenians in such matters and ignoring the forcibly expelled Azerbaijanis from Western Azerbaijan constitutes discrimination on the basis of ethnicity and religion.
It is unacceptable for the Netherlands to make systematic groundless claims against Azerbaijan. Instead of slandering Azerbaijan, the Netherlands should fulfill its decolonization obligations in maritime territories such as Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, Saba, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten in accordance with the UN Charter and stop violating the rights of local people there.
The Netherlands, which violates the rights of local people by refusing to implement decolonization, has no moral right to talk about human rights and humanitarian issues.
We demand that the Netherlands stop its smear campaign against Azerbaijan and respect the rights of West Azerbaijanis to return safely," the statement reads.
