NATO prevents Russian nuclear-armed submarines from reaching the coast of the United States, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, APA reports.
“It should not be forgotten that NATO is critically important for the security of the United States. We ensure that the transatlantic region remains secure. The Euro-Atlantic area is secure, the North Sea is secure, Europe is secure — all of this is in the interests of the United States,” Mark Rutte emphasized.
The NATO Secretary General also commented on the idea of creating a unified European army.
“Some people think that I am against this idea. I am not against it. But this idea is a very complicated matter. I think it will not happen because of sovereignty issues. Given the command-and-control structure we have in NATO, there is no need for the idea of a European army,” Rutte said.
