Western Azerbaijan Community chastises position of representative of UNESCO, Krista Pikkat

"As the Western Azerbaijan Community, we condemn and reject the stance expressed by UNESCO representative Krista Pikkat regarding the deployment of a mission to Azerbaijan based on Armenia's claims about cultural monuments in territories of Azerbaijan," reads a statement released by the Western Azerbaijan Community, APA reports.

The statement emphasizes that instead of addressing multiple petitions concerning the widespread destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in formerly occupied Azerbaijani territories and in Armenia, UNESCO's representative has given attention to Armenia's baseless claims, which is unacceptable: "The discriminatory attitude displayed by UNESCO toward the Azerbaijani people on religious and ethnic grounds reveals that this organization has become an instrument of anti-Azerbaijan policy in the hands of France. We demand that UNESCO cease its defamation and discrimination against Azerbaijan and its people, fulfill its duties by addressing the destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage by Armenia, as well as send a special monitoring mission to this country."
