Separate law on status of Western Azerbaijan refugees should be adopted - Community chair

"A separate law on the status of Western Azerbaijan refugees should be adopted," said Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community Aziz Alakbarli as he delivered a speech during the public hearing on "Return to Western Azerbaijan: Legal aspects", APA reports.

“There is a Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the status of refugees and IDP. This Law had been signed by Great Leader Heydar Aliyev on May 21, 1999. Today the concept of IDP is being buried in the archives of the history of Azerbaijan. Both for this reason and in terms of adapting the concept of return to Western Azerbaijan, I believe that this law should be revised and a separate law on the status of Western Azerbaijan refugees should be adopted,” the Chairman of the Community said.
