Meeting held with US delegation in Western Azerbaijan Community's office

A meeting was held between the co-founder of the Interfaith Neighbours Network of the United States of America, the president of the Institute of Global Affairs and the senior pastor of the Northwood Church in Texas, Bob Roberts, the vice-president of the Institute of Global Affairs, James Chen, and community officials in the Western Azerbaijan Community, the community told APA.

The guests were informed about the realities of Western Azerbaijan and the deportation of our compatriots from their ancestral lands in stages during the last century at the meeting, which was attended by Malahat Ibrahimgizi, Chairperson of the Women's Council of KAI, Kamal Jafarov, Vice-Chairman of the Youth Council of KAI, and Ulviyya Zulfigar, Head of Community Public Relations and Western Azerbaijan Television Department - Press Secretary.

Malahat Ibrahimgizi said that after these deportations, the rich material and cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijanis in their homelands, including more than 300 mosques, palaces, castles and caravansaries, as well as about 500 cemeteries, were destroyed.

Kamal Jafarov told the guests that the destruction of mosques and cemeteries does not fit into any dimension from a religious point of view, and these actions should be stopped by Armenia. Ulviyya Zulfigar emphasized that all countries of the world, including the United States, support the rights of Western Azerbaijanis, and that cooperation should be carried out in the direction of the implementation of the right of return, which is one of the norms and principles of international law.

Pastor Bob Roberts said that although he had heard about Western Azerbaijan before from the Western media, now he had more detailed and accurate information about the true nature of the issue. He stated that the level of tolerance in Azerbaijan is high and pointed out that this model should be in both countries for the sake of peace and reconciliation.
