2nd int'l conference will be held on topic "The Right of Return - Promoting Justice for Azerbaijanis Forced to Deport from Armenia"

The second international conference of the Western Azerbaijan Community on the topic of “The Right of Return – Promoting Justice for Azerbaijanis Forced to Deport from Armenia” will be held on December 5 and 6, APA reports.

Before the conference, a press conference was held at the Western Azerbaijan Community to answer media questions about the event and the topics to be discussed here.

Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, MP, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor Aziz Alakbarov, speaking about the community's principles of activity, said that organizing the conference is very important in terms of bringing the issue of return to West Azerbaijan to the attention of the world community: “For two hundred years, our compatriots have been subjected to ethnic cleansing, genocide, and deportations at different times. The last deportation was carried out by Armenians in 1987-1991. Our compatriots who have lived in Western Azerbaijan for thousands of years were expelled from their ancestral lands. We are very glad that after the Garabagh victory, the struggle for our historical lands has come to the fore. For the first time, we were able to bring the issue of Western Azerbaijan to the world. On the recommendation of President Ilham Aliyev, we organized an international conference on the right of return to discuss the legal aspects of the issue of Western Azerbaijan at the international level, and the second such conference will be held on December 5 and 6.

A. Alakbarov said that more than 100 representatives from more than 50 countries will participate in the conference: “Five panels will be organized within the framework of the conference, and five reports will be heard in each panel. The international discussion of the concept of return to Western Azerbaijan will constitute a new stage of our struggle.”

Gaya Mammadov, a member of the Western Azerbaijan Community, MP, said that among the guests there will be deputies, political figures, scientists, historians from different countries.

“The organization of this conference makes Azerbaijan one of the internationally recognized centers on the right of return,” G. Mammadov added.
