Georgia abolishes visa regime for Russian citizens

Baku - APA-Economics. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has signed an act cancelling visa requirements for Russian citizens, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said on the Rustavi 2 television on Wednesday, Feb. 29

"The act signed by the president has already been published in the Legislative Bulletin of the Georgian Justice Ministry," Kalandadze said.

There were two ways to implement this initiative: to pass the decision through parliament or by a presidential act, as provided by the Constitution, she said.

"The second option was chosen as it is much quicker," Kalandadze said.

The proposal to scrap visa requirements for Russians was made in parliament by President Mikheil Saakashvili a day earlier.
