UNWTO expert Robert Kleverd got acquainted with existing infrastructure, service and tourism potential of Baku, held several meetings in this regard.

At the meeting with First Deputy of General Director of the Baku Sea International Trade Port Vahid Aliyev, Kleverd discussed parameters, characteristics, technical capabilities of ships, as well as the distances between the ports. It was noted that only sea-river type vessels can sail in the Caspian Sea: “It may cause some problems. Thus such vessels must be constructed only at Caspian aquatorium or bring to the aquatorium via Volga River. But we the current bridges over Volga into account, there may occur some problems. Sometimes, upper parts of the ships are cut due to height and rebuilt afterwards”.

Some seasonal problems were discussed as well: “Some ports (for example, Astrakhan) frost up in winter and can not receive vessels. River type ships, which easily pass though Volga River, can not sail in the Caspian sea because of the wind”.

Meeting was also held between Kleverd and famous tourism companies such as Millenium Travel and Baku Tour. Opportunities of the market and perspectives of the proposal were discussed during these meetings.

Views were exchanged on stop time at the harbors, term of common cruise and other issues.

Within the framework of the visit Kleverd was informed about sights, cultural-historical monuments, museums, as well as national cuisine and folk music f the city.
