Some 108 people were diagnosed with HIV in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2017, Esmira Almammadova, acting director of the Health Ministry’s AIDS Center said Friday, APA reported.
She noted that out of the 108 people infected with HIV only one person is a foreign national.
According to her, there are 71 males and 36 females among the 107 Azerbaijani citizens.
“During this period, 31 Azerbaijani citizens developed AIDS and 19 people died of the HIV infection,” she added.
According to Almammadova, of the 107 Azerbaijani citizens, 10 were infected through parenteral contact, 51 through heterosexual contact, 4 through homosexual contact, and 4 through mother-baby contact. The other 39 people’s causes of infection are yet to be determined.
