Baku to host Azerbaijan-Romania Inter-University Forum

The 1st Azerbaijan-Romania Inter-University Forum will be held in Baku on May 24-25.

A delegation led by Romania’s Deputy Minister of Education Gigel Paraschiv will arrive in Baku to take part in the forum, APA reported.

Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dan Iancu told reporters Monday that the forum will be attended by rectors, vice-rectors and representatives of 10 leading higher education institutions from all major university centers in Romania.

According to the ambassador, they will represent University Politehnica of Bucharest, Petroleum and Gas University of Ploiesti, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest and others.

During the first day, the representatives of the ministries of education and universities will exchange views and share experiences on matters of common interest related to the education reforms in Azerbaijan and Romania, the restructuring of the higher education in an ever more competitive international environment and the challenges of adjusting to the needs and requirements of the labor market. The second day will be mainly dedicated to inter-university contacts. A number of inter-university agreements are expected to be signed, paving the way for the strengthening of exchanges and mobilities between the higher education institutions from Azerbaijan and Romania.

Iancu also spoke about the scholarship programs intended for Azerbaijan students.

“One of them is a scholarship program determined by the Romanian Ministry of Education. Each year 10-12 students are receiving education under this program. Another scholarship program is conducted by the Romanian Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the embassies. 80-85 students all over the world are studying under this program. Each year two Azerbaijani students can receive this scholarship. Elections are held according to the criteria, but not to the countries,” he said.
