Azerbaijani emergencies ministry denies reports of staff reductions

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has dismissed media reports of staff reductions as baseless.

“Media reports of staff reductions in the Ministry of Emergency Situations are false and baseless,” the ministry’s press service told APA on Monday.

In November 2016, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on measures to improve emergency in the country, the press service noted.

“According to the decree, in order to improve the management in the field of rescue on water, as well as to ensure traffic safety of small vessels, the State Service for Control of Small Vessels and Water Rescue under the Ministry of Emergency Situations was established on the base of Inspectorate for Small Vessels and the State Rescue Service on Waters. The Ministry of Emergency Situations was instructed to submit the draft provision of the state service within two months,” said the press service, adding that the abovementioned measures are aimed at improving emergency management and have nothing to do with staff reductions.
