"Plans cannot remain just words on paper," Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), said during the Parliamentary Meeting organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29, APA reports.

He emphasized that plans must be translated into concrete outcomes in the real economy and on the ground: "Every country must intensify its efforts. Parliaments should first encourage their national delegations to be as ambitious as possible. In particular, the New Collective Quantified Goal for climate finance will be a key driver of opportunity, especially for countries most affected by climate change. Having parliamentary support behind negotiators can be a powerful force for progress and higher ambitions. It is no coincidence that parliaments around the world have budgetary powers. Without resources, the voice of the people cannot be heard. We can no longer allow the voices of 8 billion people suffering from climate change to be silenced."
