“I feel great joy at having regained my freedom under the pardon order. I thank President Ilham Aliyev for this,” Turkish citizen Salih Özdemir, who was released during the implementation of the pardon order in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, said, APA reports.
He said he was satisfied with the treatment he received while serving his sentence: “The attitude toward us was always normal. I had no complaints.”
Another Turkish citizen, Mehmet Demir, who was released in accordance with the pardon order, also expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev. He said he had been serving his sentence for approximately 18 months:
“I deeply regret the crime I committed. I wish everyone to stay away from crime. We are regretful, and we would not want anyone else to have regrets.”
It should be noted that today President Ilham Aliyev signed an order pardoning a number of convicted persons. Under the order, 19 people sentenced to imprisonment and one person sentenced to restriction of liberty were released from the unserved remainder of their sentences.
Among those pardoned are five foreign nationals, including two Turkish citizens.
