The shortlist for the 2026 Booker Prize has been announced, with six works included, APA reports.
According to the information, the list features two previous winners, one author who has previously been shortlisted, and three writers nominated for the prize for the first time.
The shortlisted works include novels by England’s M. John Harrison (The End of Everything), Jamaican writer Marlon James (The Disappearers), England’s Luke Kennard (Black Bag), English writer Rebecca Perry (May We Feed the King), US writer Elizabeth Strout (The Things We Never Say), and Scottish author Douglas Stuart (John of John).
The shortlist was selected by a panel of judges chaired by classicist, writer, and broadcaster Mary Beard. The judging panel also includes award-winning poet and writer Raymond Antrobus, musician and writer Jarvis Cocker, journalist and critic Rebecca Liu, and former Booker Prize shortlisted author, writer and essayist Patricia Lockwood.
It is noted that the Booker Prize, which has been awarded for more than 55 years, is considered one of the most prestigious prizes in English-language literature. This year’s selection was drawn from a longlist of 13 books chosen from 163 submissions.
The prize is awarded to works of fiction written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.
The 2026 winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on November 9. The winning author will receive £50,000, while each of the shortlisted authors will receive £2,500.
