Inspection commission was established at the Nakhchivan Division of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science (ANAS) to check the activities of the expeditions during the excavation works carried out in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, APA reports.
The members of the Commission got acquainted with the state of archaeological excavations conducted in Tumbultapa and Meydantapa settlements.
Tumbultape settlement is located in the territory of Nakhchivan city, on the right bank of Nakhchivanchay. The head of the expedition is Vali Bakhshaliyev, corresponding member of ANAS.
Vali Bakhshaliyev stressed that during the investigation of the Tumbultapa settlement, examples of material culture belonging to the Late Eneolithic period and the Ancient period were discovered. Although the monument was destroyed as a result of the excavation of grave monuments, it was found out that the ancient inhabitants of the area lived in square-shaped semi-excavated houses. The researcher added that the results of the carbon analysis will allow more accurate dating of the monument. Newly obtained materials from the Tumbultapa settlement will allow for a deeper study of the ancient history of the region.
