“As a result of the construction and restoration works carried out, currently about 15,000 people live in the city of Khankendi, and the territories of the Aghdere and Khojaly districts,” said Elchin Yusubov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Khankendi city, Aghdere, and Khojaly districts, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 6th Summer Camp of Diaspora Youth in Khankendi, APA’s local correspondent reports.
He noted that these individuals are both former internally displaced persons returning to their native ancestral lands and those working in state and private institutions operating in these areas:
“Currently, the return of some former internally displaced persons to the villages of Sugovushan, Hasanriz, and Talish in the Aghdere district, as well as to the city of Khojaly and the villages of Ballija, Tezebina, and Khanyurdu in the district, has been ensured, and life has returned to these villages. The work is being carried out in stages according to the relocation plan. Additionally, based on the 2025 relocation plan, repair and restoration works will be carried out in 18 settlements, including 11 villages of the Khojaly district (Ballija, Khanyurdu, Tezebina, Dashbulag, Badara, Seyidbeyli, Khanabad, Shushakand, Almali, Mehdibeyli, and Chanagchi) and 7 villages of the Aghdere district (Hasanriz, Vengli, Kolatag, Childirran, Heyvali, Chapar, and Ashaghi Oratag) related to the relocation of the population. Relevant work on the relocation of the population to these villages has already begun. As a result, the settlement of about 6,400 former internally displaced persons has been ensured in the mentioned villages. Currently, work is underway in the relevant directions to prepare relocation plans for these and other settlements for the coming years.”
