By 2050, 216 million people may become climate migrants, said Latvia’s former president (2015–2019) Raimonds Vējonis at the opening day of the 2nd Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW), APA-Economics reports.
He noted that these are not just statistics, but families, farmers, children, and devastated communities.
“In 2022 alone, climate disasters displaced more than 32 million people. This means 60,000 people – women, men, and children – leave their homes every day due to storms, floods, and droughts. If we do not act now, climate-related forced migration will become one of the greatest threats to global stability this century,” he said.
